Texas Kindergarten Math TEKS Coverage Map

Math Quest Academy · Parent and educator review · Reviewed October 2026

This page connects Texas Kindergarten math expectations to existing learning activities and identifies where an explicit assessment or new lesson is still required.

Review in progress — not a certification. A linked game is an example of relevant instruction, not proof that it completely covers the expectation or that a child has mastered it. Each standard still needs evidence-based curriculum review and educator validation.

36TEKS expectations mapped (including 7 process standards)

Priority improvements before claiming Texas alignment

The site already offers useful practice in counting, operations, shapes, and picture graphs. Several standards have appropriate hands-on activities as well.

High-priority gaps: K.9 financial literacy (earned income, gifts, job skills, needs and wants); assessing instant recognition of small quantities; counting backward to 20; building and comparing sets through 20; naming capacity as a measurable attribute; recognizing 2D faces of 3D solids; and independently creating real-object and picture graphs.

Note about K.1: Texas mathematical process standards are embedded throughout teaching and learning; parents should ask children to explain methods, choose tools, and justify their answers rather than treating a game score as proof.

How to use this map

Choose a TEKS row, open the related activity if available, then observe the child demonstrating that expectation without answer prompts. Use the existing hands-on record and Common Core checklist where applicable. Mark uncovered expectations for future lessons and educator review. Do not automatically translate these findings into a passing grade or school-credit decision.

Next curriculum-development work

Build and review a kindergarten coin-identification check with all four required coins, a separate set of personal-finance learning activities, and the identified hands-on number, measurement, geometry and graph-creation checks. This coverage map should be revised after each new activity is tested and reviewed by a qualified educator.
